New Mexico Academy for the Media Arts (NMAMA) has a provision within its charter that requires students to complete a 60-hour internship prior to graduation. This mission specific goal was included to ensure that students are gaining real-world experience in the application of media and career readiness skills acquired through participation in NMAMA’s career and technical education programming. In addition to student internships being a major component of the NMAMA charter contract, a 60-hour internship is also a local (NMAMA-specific) requirement for graduation. Students who complete a 60-hour paid or unpaid internship receive .50 elective credit hours that are applied toward the state of New Mexico’s graduation requirements.
